BIOGRAPHY

A 6th Generation Uvaldean who is able to trace his roots back to original Uvalde County Settlers, John is a 1990 Sabinal High School Graduate. His time as a youth was spent partly on his family’s working ranch, and the other part in his father’s law office where he was a practicing attorney for over 40 years in Uvalde. During his father’s time as attorney, he even examined title for Garner Abstract on a contract basis frequently over the years.

After high school, John continued in his father’s example by attending and graduating from Texas A&M University in College Station (Gig ‘em ‘94) with a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture Economics. From there, he went on to graduate from the South Texas College of Law in 1999 with a Juris Doctorate.

After 16 years of examining title for area title companies and preparing document packages for lenders, as well as representing his clients in real estate transactions, when the opportunity arose in 2015 for Garner Abstract to be purchased - John jumped at the opportunity to be involved in the Title business on a more direct level. This was an exciting business move not only because his law background specialty is land transactions, but also to have the esteemed honor of being an owner and operator of one of Uvalde’s oldest and most revered businesses.

He has continued to serve as County Attorney, conduct business with his private clients, and run the title company.  Bringing years of experience and key industry knowledge of the area to Garner is a unique asset that is a competitive advantage.

John and his wife Kyla have four children, and they spend their leisure time on their ranch property doing various chores from clearing brush and fixing fence, or being on horseback in their arena (or those across Texas), with their children and friends.
